Of Churches and Lighthouses.....

This shot was taken from the ferry as we were leaving Port aux Basques, NFLD. I have always found churches and lighthouses architecturally pleasing, and Newfoundland has lots of both. One was built to preserve the body, and the other, the soul. However, in recent times, the lighthouse keepers have been replaced with electronic beacons, that operate automatically, and the preachers that used to preach from the pulpits of the various churches, appear also to be a disappearing lot. The reasons for this are varied and many, and I happily refrain from elaborating on either of those subjects....my fighting days are over. At any rate, both of these structures are built on rock, and that is somewhat biblical I think. It reminds me of the old hymn that we used to sing in church, and also sounds great on the button accordion...."Will your anchor hold in the storms of life......"

Thanks for your comments John. Some year you should go to the Rock and check it out. Lots of places to go and things to see. We had a great time. Dave

Have you been posting the photos during your trip or from home?
