Slacked Lime Fence.....

This front yard in Trinity, Newfoundland, brought back a lot of memories from my childhood years. One of the things that was expected of me when school let out for the summer holidays, was to "whitewash" the picket fence around our property. So, from the time I was about 7 years old until I went and got a job at a local gas station at 12, the fence got its annual coat of slacked lime powder, dissolved in a 5 gallon bucket of water, and using a 5 inch wide brush to apply it. When it dried, the fence looked exactly as you see in this picture. In about three days, once this chore was completed, then and only then was I free to go play ball with my friends in a vacant lot not too far away, or ride my bike all over town....
